2017-2018 – Courtney Paro

Courtney Paro

Designing fashion and working with fabrics is Courtney’s passion. She is attending Buffalo State to pursue her dream. According to one of her art teachers, Mrs. Jaclyn Tyler, “Her thoughful approach to art making, her willingness to push herself, and her inherent artistic skill, regularly result in final compositions that are both aesthetically pleasing and compelling.” She is the daughter of Jeff and Tracy Hughes.

2016-2017 – Victoria Izyk

Victoria Izyk

Victoria’s long term goal is to become an elementary school teacher. She wants to use her art concentration to teach students in fun, creative ways. During summer months Amber wants to teach art classes for children along with traveling. Victoria is attending the State University of New York at Oswego. She is the daughter of John and Michelle Izyk.

2015-2016 – Amber DeStevens

The Larry Mitchelson Fine Arts Scholarship selection committee was proud to announce Miss Amber DeStevens as our 2015-2016 Academic Year winner. Miss Stevens is attending Rochester Institute of Technology. Amber is interested in photography, interior design and museum studies. In addition to her art aspirations, Amber is a student-athlete who excelled in track and field. Amber is the daughter of Ed DeStevens.

2014-2015 – Abigail Field

The Larry Mitchelson Fine Arts Scholarship selection committee was proud to announce Miss Abigail Field as our 2014-2015 Academic Year winner. Miss Field is attending Russell Sage College in Troy, NY.

Abigail dreams of working in an elementary school in occupational therapy where she intends on applying her creative arts therapy skills. In addition to her love for ceramics and acting, Abby has won art awards and also worked part-time. Abby is the daughter of Mark and Lynne Field.

2013-2014 – Abigail Shatrau

Abigail Shatrau has earned the 2014 Fine Arts Award from the Larry Mitchelson Scholarship Foundation. Abigail will be pursuing her dream of a career in fashion design. She will attend the State University of New York at Oneonta and then plans on completing her schooling at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Abigail is the daughter of Christopher and Denise Shatrau of Oswego, New York.

2012-2013 – Mariah Munger

The Larry Mitchelson Fine Arts Scholarship selection committee was proud to announce Miss Mariah Munger as our 2012-2013 Academic Year Winner. Miss Munger is attending New Paltz State University. Since coming to New Paltz, Mariah has changed her major from Art Therapy to Art Education with a concentration in Ceramics. She has been busy with classes and foundation studios which has really helped her develop her artistic skills.

Mariah will be posting new artwork to the website soon so be on the look out for that!

2011-2012 – Maggie Ryan

The Larry Mitchelson Fine Arts Scholarship selection committee was proud to announce Miss Maggie Ryan as our 2011-2012 Academic Year Winner. Miss Ryan is attending Oswego State University.

Maggie Ryan loves creating a variety of art including photography and painting. Over the years she has developed her own style of art incorporating collaged images into her compositions. Maggie will be attending State University of New York at Oswego in Fall 2012 to pursue an art education certification as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. In addition, Maggie wants to earn a dual degree in Art Therapy. In addition to her love for art, Maggie has been an excellent overall student, President of several Clubs in high school and also managed to work a part-time job. Maggie is the daughter of Patrick and Tracey Ryan.

2010-2011 – Desirae Collins

We are proud to have Desirae Collins as our 2011 scholarship recipient. Desirae was selected for a $1000 gift based on her application and outstanding art portfolio.

Desirae Collins plans to pursue art education at State University of New York Oswego and also study art therapy. During her high school career, Desirae developed her own style of art incorporating collaged images into her compositions. She also enjoys photography and earned an Art Achievement Award in 2010. Desirae is the daughter of Rhonda Abraham.

2009-2010 – Alexis Semeraro

We are proud to have Alexis Semeraro as our 2010 scholarship recipient. Alexis was selected for a $1000 gift based on her application and outstanding art portfolio.

We expect to see Alexis’ name in lights someday. Her goal is to become an animator and film producer and help produce media for companies like Disney or Dreamworks. She has already established an impressive track record as winner of the 2003 Harborfest drawing contest, third place in the 2009 Memorial Day Salute poster contest and 2010 winner of the G. Ray Bodley Mural Contest. Alexis will begin pursuit of her career goals at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Fall 2010 where she is enrolled in the Media Arts Program. Aside from art, Alexis is a High Honors student, is active in the community and manages to work a part-time job. Alexis is the daughter of John and Brenda Semeraro.

We are proud to have Sydney Scruton as our 2008 scholarship recipient. Sydney was selected for a $1000 gift based on their application and art portfolio. Sydney attended Finger Lakes Community College for two years before transferring to another school to study fine arts.

Matt attended SUNY Buffalo where he majored in fine art. He graduated in 2008 and is now teaching.
